Watch New Video for "Call Me By Your Name" Song `Mystery of Love'

7:51:00 PM

Music artist Sufjan Stevens has shared the music video for “Mystery of Love,” his track written for the critically acclaimed and award-winning love story, Call Me By Your Name.

The video features clips from the film, as well as footage taken at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale of Naples.

Check out the video here and watch Call Me By Your Name exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas starting January 31.

Stevens contributed three tracks to the Luca Guadagnino-directed movie: “Mystery of Love,” “Visions of Gideon,” and a Doveman remix of the Age of Adz track “Futile Devices.” Both “Mystery of Love” and “Visions of Gideon” made the shortlist for the 2018 Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Call Me By Your Name, the new film by Luca Guadagnino, is a sensual and transcendent tale of first love, based on the acclaimed novel by André Aciman.

It’s the summer of 1983 in the north of Italy, and Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet), a precocious 17- year-old young man, spends his days in his family’s 17th century villa transcribing and playing classical music, reading, and flirting with his friend Marzia (Esther Garrel).

Elio enjoys a close relationship with his father (Michael Stuhlbarg), an eminent professor specializing in Greco-Roman culture, and his mother Annella (Amira Casar), a translator, who favor him with the fruits of high culture in a setting that overflows with natural delights. While Elio’s sophistication and intellectual gifts suggest he is already a fully-fledged adult, there is much that yet remains innocent and unformed about him, particularly about matters of the heart.

One day, Oliver (Armie Hammer), a 24 year-old American college graduate student working on his doctorate, arrives as the annual summer intern tasked with helping Elio’s father. Amid the sun-drenched splendor of the setting, Elio and Oliver discover the heady beauty of awakening desire over the course of a summer that will alter their lives forever.

Call Me By Your Name is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Kendrick Lamar to Curate, Produce "Black Panther: The Album"

8:24:00 PM

Kendrick Lamar has royalty inside his DNA. Marvel Studios is pumped to announce that Grammy Award-winning artist Kendrick Lamar and Billboard Magazine’s Executive of the Year Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith will curate and produce “Black Panther: The Album” with music from and inspired by the Marvel Studios film “Black Panther.”

Kendrick Lamar and label mate SZA teamed up for lead single “All the Stars” from the upcoming soundtrack.

Listen to the single at http://youtu.be/GfCqMv--ncA now and watch “Black Panther” in Philippine cinemas February 14.

Kendrick Lamar is no stranger to “Black Panther” as his single “DNA” was featured in this past San Diego Comic-Con exclusive footage.

Lamar revealed, “Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director. The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan [Coogler] and Marvel’s vision.”

Lamar and Tiffith will collaborate with critically-acclaimed director Ryan Coogler directly in the creation of music specific to the needs of the film. This will mark the first time that Lamar will write, produce, perform and curate for a major motion picture. This collaboration represents the first time in MCU history that Marvel will integrate multiple original recordings created specifically for the film.

“I am honored to be working with such an incredible artist whose work has been so inspirational, and whose artistic themes align with those we explore in the film. I can’t wait for the world to hear what Kendrick and TDE have in store,” said Coogler, who hand-picked Lamar for this first film music collaboration.

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

The film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Ryan Coogler & Joe Robert Cole wrote the screenplay.

Teen Star and former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate Jane Oineza opens the new year with a milestone – the release of her first single “Move On,” a collaboration with Sponge Cola.

“Kinabahan talaga ako, pero tinuruan naman ako ni Yael, so nawala na ang kaba ko,” adds Jane. “It has always been a dream of mine to have a single, and eventually an album of my own.”

She adds that the experience was really “unbelievable.”

According to vocalist Yael of Sponge Cola, “Move On” is a sincere, straightforward song about bunch of friends telling someone to “move on.”

“It all started when Sponge Cola guested on ‘ASAP Chill Out,’” recalls Yael. “During and after our guesting, people were asking for us to sing. People did not stop until I got home, and then, I thought maybe Jane and Sponge Cola should do a song together, and we did.”

Yael adds, “Jane was nervous at first, but eventually, she became more comfortable with it. This girl has ‘it.’”

“Move On” is already available on ITunes, Deezer, Spinnr, Amazon.

Gloc-9 and Vinci Montaner drop some dancing in “Businessman”

5:53:00 AM

Gloc9PRpic

Anyone who has watched Gloc-9 at a live gig would know that one of the most well-received songs that get audiences on their feet is one of his oldest, telling us all to move our bodies and dance, to lighten the load of life.

On his 17th year in the music business, and after seven full length all-original albums, Gloc-9 goes back to some dance rap, bringing with him Vinci Montaner of Parokya Ni Edgar. Montaner has taken a breather from band life, but said yes to “Businessman,” a dance tune that speaks of an uncanny love between a rich girl and a poor boy, and how this difference is bound by nation that allows this disparity.

The rest of the song speaks of the unbelievable breadth of the girl’s wealth, with rooms full of money that isn’t counted and wallets are only for one thousand bills, where cars are a plenty and food is laid out on the dining table like there’s always a party. The girl is does not question how this money is earned, and where it comes from – her father is in a business that earns them billions.

In that world where everything’s served her on a silver platter, this girl wishes for what she has not experienced: to ride public transport and get her hands on some change, to try doing the laundry. The boy is enamored with her, surprised at the everyday things the girl wants to experience, where the things that are new to her is a way of life for him.

Yet “Businessman” is no easy love song, as it is one that’s layered with such a huge disparity between the rich girl and poor boy, that one can only wonder: what business is the girl’s father in, that allows him such wealth?

“Businessman” featuring Vinci Montaner will be launched on MYX on October 17 2014, Friday at 6:00PM. The music video features Winwyn Marquez. “Businessman” is part of Gloc-9’s DVD release “Biyahe ng Pangarap” to premier in November.

A new ‘Your Year’ for Malay; launch this July 25

4:02:00 PM

_MG_4130

The road to the release of alte rnative band Malay’s debut CD is unlike any local releases. Years ago, the band digitally released “Your Year.” Due to insistent public demand, the band decided to re-record all the songs from the digital album and include two new tracks for the release of the 2014 version of “Your Year,” which will be launched this July 25 at Last Home, Ortigas Home Depot.

The album launch features performances from Malay and other bands. Entrance to the launch is the band’s CD.

“I consider this album a totally different animal from the initial digital release of ‘Your Year,’” says Malay frontman Pochoy Labog. “Now backed with the support of a major label, we've had more resources to use for production, starting with our producer, Mr. Jorel Corpus.”

With the help of their new producer, Pochoy feels that the songs in the album are closer to how he imagined it to be, or even better.

Malay is composed of Pochoy (vocals and guitars), Miguel Dayanghirang (bass), and Alden Abaca (drums).

“Working on the album took us out of our comfort zones, when needed,” states Pochoy. “I almost regret releasing the songs digitally, but I guess, it is part of the journey of this album.”

Pochoy considers this CD a “first meeting” with the listeners, and further adds, “they will experience the full sound of Malay for the first time.”

Asked why it was decided to release this album in physical format, Pochoy explains, “the decision to put this album out in CD format was brought about by requests from our listeners. I guess, to them, it is still necessary to have something tangible to experience the music.”

The music video of the album’s first single “Anak Ng Diyos” has been released on MYX.

Adam Levine Makes Film Debut in “Begin Again”

12:48:00 AM

BEGIN AGAIN

Although he’s no stranger to the camera, having been a coach on the NBC show “The Voice” for several seasons, and making his small screen acting debut on the hit FX Drama “American Horror Story,” music star ADAM LEVINE has never tried dramatic acting until he was approached by John Carney to be part of the upcoming movie “Begin Again.”

“I was honored just to be asked, and right off the bat I fell in love with the script.  To have John believe in me is really exciting,” says Levine.  “John saw something in me that was this character Dave– whether that is flattering or not, I can’t tell, but I would not have considered doing a film unless I was really connected to the material.  I love John’s tone – he is a musician, and I think his sensibilities are those of a musician so we get along famously.”

The latest film from writer-director John Carney (ONCE), BEGIN AGAIN is a soul-stirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together.

“The music was easy,” admits Levine after shooting.  “That’s kind of my wheelhouse, I guess, but the acting has been quite a challenge in a really great way.  The only thing people said to me was ‘know your lines’ and ‘don’t act, just listen and react,’ and that was great advice.  I’ve also found that being comfortable and receptive to direction makes it a lot easier.  It was daunting going into this new world, but everyone was so sweet and made me feel comfortable and at home, so I felt like I was doing my best even though I had relatively little experience.”

As the front man of Grammy Award-winning recording artist Maroon 5, Adam Levine has left an indelible mark on popular music. Levine has also collaborated with various musical acts including Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Natasha Bedingfield, Slash and K'naan. Levine has also made several appearances on television, including “Saturday Night Live,” “30 Rock,” “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and Comedy Central's “Night of Too Many Stars.”

“It might sound heavy to say,” concludes Levine, “but the film asks the question: can a song save your life?  I do believe that the energy you feel when you hear a song that you respond to emotionally – it can change your life, and maybe save it in a way.  Music saved my life, because I love it so much that I don’t know what I would do without it.”

BEGIN AGAIN also stars Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, Hailee Steinfeld, and Levine’s fellow judge from The Voice, CeeLo Green.

Produced by Anthony Bregman at Likely Story, Tobin Armbrust of Exclusive Media and Judd Apatow at Apatow Productions, BEGIN AGAIN opens on July 9, 2014 in theaters nationwide and is distributed locally by SOLAR PICTURES.

“This year's finalists constitute a heady brew of the most varied of genres: dance, rock, R&B, a couple of ballades, some pop and a genre-defying song in multi meter. I am also happy and excited to hear established singers shoulder to shoulder with new, up and coming performers. Only time will tell which songs will generate the most audience interest. Listen to the top 12 finalist of the Philpop 2014 and be the judge,” shared the foundation’s executive director Maestro Ryan Cayabyab.

One of the top 12 contenders will emerge as the 1-million peso grand prize winner which will be determined on July 26 at the Meralco Theater. The foundation’s Executive Director Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Board of Directors Noel Cabangon and Ogie Alcasid are all praises for this year’s crop of finalists and are excited to share these Philpop hits with the world.

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" to Feature Original Song by Imagine Dragons

4:15:00 PM

Director Michael Bay, film composer Steve Jablonsky and Paramount Pictures are collaborating with the Grammy Award-winning band Imagine Dragons to feature the band’s original music in the upcoming film “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” one of the most anticipated movies of the summer.

Imagine-Dragons

Following an early footage screening of the film, Imagine Dragons wrote the original song “Battle Cry,” which Bay used in critical points in the film. Additionally, the band contributed original music during the scoring process by recording cues with Jablonsky, the film’s composer, and Hans Zimmer, who assisted in the process. The collaboration resulted in added depth to the sound of the film.

“We’re incredibly lucky that Dan, Wayne, Ben and Daniel were available to work with us,” says director Bay. “I remember being drawn to the emotion of ’Demons’ and ’Radioactive’ the first time I heard those songs, and I knew I wanted that same energy and heart for this movie. They’ve created a really epic, otherworldly sound for ’Battle Cry.’”

“The `Transformers' franchise has set the bar for cinematic innovation over the years, says Alex Da Kid, label head at KIDinaKORNER records. We are excited to collaborate with Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures and view this as an incredible global platform.”

Imagine Dragons will perform its new single live at the film’s worldwide premiere in Hong Kong, one of the locations in the film, on June 19th.

Imagine Dragons are Dan Reynolds (vocals), Wayne Sermon (guitar), Ben McKee (bass), and Daniel Platzman (drums).

In “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” four years after the catastrophic events in Chicago, Earth has mostly recovered from the great war between the Autobots and the Decepticons. But when Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg), a struggling inventor, and his daughter, Tessa (Nicola Peltz) discover Optimus Prime, they bring down Decepticons, Autobots and the US government on them.

Now with the Decepticons plotting to destroy Earth once again, and a paranoid government official on his tail, Cade must join the Autobots, and Optimus Prime must align with the ancient Dinobots to save Earth.

Opening across the Philippines on June 25, “Transformers: Age of Extinction” is distributed by United International Pictures through Columbia Pictures.

Ed Sheeran’s Song in “The Fault in Our Stars”

5:18:00 PM

Godzilla

John Green’s global bestseller struck a chord not only with young adults, but with readers of all ages, when it came out in 2012. The film, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort is equally compelling, bringing Green’s indelible characters to life on screen. It tells the story of Hazel Grace Lancaster (Woodley) and Gus Waters (Elgort), who are immediately drawn to each other when they meet at a cancer support group. Friendship and a shared sense of humor turn into something much deeper for the pair and we are swept along on their extraordinary journey as they embark on a quest that takes them thousands of miles away from home, to Amsterdam.

Ostensibly centered on two teenagers with cancer, at its heart “The Fault In Our Stars” is moving, funny and upbeat, about the joys and heartache of first love. In short, the film is an insightful celebration of life. There is powerful chemistry between the two stars of the film. Directed by Josh Boone (“Stuck In Love”), the consummate supporting cast includes Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, Nat Wolff and Willem Dafoe.

The British musician Ed Sheeran whose music videos in YouTube and songs are widely followed and anticipated, watched an early version of “The Fault In Our Stars” and was immediately inspired and affected by the remarkable movie. Sheeran signed on to write a song for the film: ‘All Of The Stars’.

“Julie Greenwald, who runs Atlantic Records, my record label, kept saying: ‘have you read this book, “The Fault In Our Stars”? You need to read this book, it’s amazing. They’ve made a movie of it.’ She just kept saying it and then eventually I watched the film and it is amazing! I had a bit of an emotional breakdown and tweeted about it, and I saw the huge reaction just from one tweet. I cracked! I was like, ‘cool, let’s do it.’ I realized there was a pretty sizeable fan base for the book and the upcoming film. I was so excited that I was asked to write a song for the film. I wrote ‘All of the Stars’ and I’m very glad to be involved,” shares Sheeran on how his song for the movie came to be.

A Fault In Our Stars

When he was only 20 years old, Ed Sheeran’s highly praised EP ‘No. 5 Collaborations Project’, reached number 2 on the iTunes chart. His multi-platinum debut album called ‘+’ (plus) established him as a global presence. In 2011, Sheeran won two Brit Awards, [one for British Breakthrough Act and another for British Male Solo Artist]. He performed with Elton John at the 2013 Grammys, toured with Taylor Swift on The Red Tour and played at the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony. He was nominated for a Grammy for ‘The A Team’ in 2013. This year he was nominated for another Grammy, for Best New Artist. Sheeran has contributed to many film and television soundtracks. He wrote the original song ‘I See Fire’ for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” He wrote two songs for the popular group One Direction, which were in the film “One Direction: This Is Us.” His songs have been featured in TV shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Vampire Diaries.”

Sheeran continues to share that, “I wanted to make a very emotive song that would make people cry, I guess. For people who love the book and love the movie, I hope this song makes them cry. That’s the goal. You wouldn’t watch the film if you didn’t want to cry and have a good release. So I hope the song gives people a release. I wanted something very anthemic and euphoric to lead the audience out of the film and to give it emotion.”

“The Fault In Our Stars” opens June 5 in cinemas nationwide from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

Johnoy Danao sells the music in first mainstream album

5:07:00 AM

Dubbed as the must-have OPM album of the year, Johnoy Danao’s first mainstream album Samu’t-Sari boasts of songs that tackle love in its different faces. This is Johnoy’s first album under a major record label, and he chose Universal Records to take care of his songs.
“Releasing an album independently was a great experience for me,” admits Johnoy. “But, I realized that working with a label, gives me a chance to reach a wider audience. Limited din kasi talaga pag ikaw lang mag-isa. Kahit anong sipag mo, may hangganan sa maaabot na tenga.”
Johnoy, who has established his own strong following in his years as an independent artist, is proud to be in the Universal Records’ roster of artists, which includes OPM President Ogie Alcasid and Noel Cabangon.
“I had a very pleasant experience working with Universal Records’ resident producer Ito Rapadas when we we were working on last year’s PhilPop album,” says Johnoy when asked why he chose Universal Records to be his first mainstream label. “Plus, I really respect the artists in the roster. They are the people I look up to. I am in good company.”
When asked what the buyers of his album should expect from the album, he quips, “Samu’t-Sari is my way of introducing my music to a wider audience. It is never about me, my face, the visuals. It is all about the music, the voice.”
PR01
When asked why, of all OPM songs, he chose Beer and Sundo to be included in the album, he replies, “Ang ganda ng mga kantang ‘to. Ito yung mga kanta na alam mong pinag-isipan. Ito yung kanta na minsan iniisip ko na, ‘sana ako nagsulat nito.’”
Johnoy describes the entire album as easy listening, perfect for sentimental moments or road trips.
Johnoy considers Buntong-hininga and Bakuran two of his favorite cuts from the album.
Buntong-hininga kasi magaan, maaliwalas, at napapanahon sa init ngayon,” describes Johnoy. “Bakuran (his collaboration with Aiza Seguerra) naman at sumasalamin sa kung paano tayo lahat nagmamahal.”
Johnoy is also happy that his version of the 2013 PhilPop entry Kung Di Man is included in the album. The song, which was interpreted by Ney Dimaculangan in the festival, was 1strunner-up in last year’s PhilPop.
Ikaw At Ako, perhaps the most notable Johnoy Danao song, is also included in the album. The said song was used as theme in one of the episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya.
Johnoy expressed pride over his Samu’t-Sari album because he added different elements in every song in the album.
He cites, “we used Tuba in Salubong, Bassoon for Malayang Bilanggo… All songs have their own individual highlights.”
