The story follows Baby Bink, who's taken on an adventure across the city, pursued by three inept kidnappers. Its "hide and seek" dynamics invokes an Easter egg hunt spirit, making it a fun inclusion to the list.

Irish Wish - A Movie Review

8:35:00 AM

Rating: ★★

From the hearty tales of the Emerald Isle comes this rom-com, Irish Wish. Directed by Janeen Damian, this cute in-flight to Ireland is an hour and thirty-three minutes of laughter and folklore wrapped in friendship and love.

Plot Overview

Irish Wish brings us Margaret "Maddie" Kelly, a role  brought to life by Lindsay Lohan. Maddie's life turns upside down when the man she secretly loves decides to marry her best friend. The plot thickens when she chooses to be the bridesmaid at the wedding, set in the quaint and picturesque towns of Ireland.

Cast & Characters

One of the film's strengths lies in its casting. Lindsay Lohan is perfect as Maddie Kelly, balancing comedy, and romance. Ed Speleers as James Thomas and Alexander Vlahos as Paul Kennedy engage in believable chemistry with Lohan. The supporting cast, including Ayesha Curry, Jane Seymour, and Elizabeth Tan, also deliver performances that enrich the story and satiate the audience.

Direction & Screenplay

Janeen Damian encapsulates the Irish charm and magically weaves it with a modern-day love story. Kirsten Hansen's writing is light-hearted, keeping the audience glued and entertained.

Critique

While the movie offers an engaging love triangle set amidst the lush Irish landscapes, it doesn't shy away from cliches often associated with the genre. Yes, it's filled with romantic tropes - but that's part of its charm. It's lovely seeing Lindsay Lohan on the big screen again, and the on-screen chemistry between Lohan, Speleers, and Vlahos makes it an enjoyable watch.

Conclusion

In the end, Irish Wish is an enjoyable romcom that beautifully explores an Irish wish. The belly-full of laughs combined with moments of tenderness justifies its 5.2 IMDb rating. It's not the best movie ever created, but it's certainly cute, funny and undeniably entertaining. This film feels like a warm cup of Irish coffee on a rainy day – familiar, yet pleasantly heartwarming.

The Masterful Storytelling of Netflix's Mask Girl: A Review

6:56:00 AM

"Mask Girl" is an emotional and thought-provoking series that tells a tale intertwined with fame, identity, and the desire for acceptance. The series presents a unique narrative where three different actors flawlessly portray the character journey of the mask girl, providing viewers with a riveting experience.

The Allure of Mystery

The plot focuses on a girl who craves fame from a young age but fails to achieve it due to the societal standards of beauty. As she falls into the disappointment of a humdrum life, she finds an ingenious way to mask her identity and reach out to audiences through internet videos. However, her newfound fame leads her into a downward spiral of chaos and challenge, leading to a gripping spectacle that keeps viewers tensed until the end.

"Mask Girl" is more than just a drama series. It is a commentary on the superficial world of social media today. The protagonist, Kim Mo Mi, rises in the entertainment world, not through her talent, but by hiding her "ugly" face behind a mask. This narrative delivers a hard-hitting message about the world's obsession with beauty, attention, and the lengths one will go to secure these fleeting desires.

Aesthetics and Cinematography

Another aspect of "Mask Girl" that I loved was the aesthetics and cinematography. The drama has a stunning visual style that matches the mood and tone of the story. The drama uses a lot of colors and contrasts to create a vivid and dynamic atmosphere. For example, the scenes where the main protagonist is in her masked persona are often bright and warm, while the scenes where she is in her normal persona are often dark and cool. The drama also uses different angles and shots to highlight the emotions and expressions of the characters.

The drama also has a high-quality production value that makes it look like a movie. A lot of beautiful and scenic locations that add to the visual appeal.

Stellar Performances

The magic of "Mask Girl" truly comes alive thanks to its remarkable ensemble, leading the charge with compelling and nuanced portrayals that resonate deeply. Go Hyun-jung, who takes on the multifaceted role of Kim Mo-mi, superbly navigates the complexities of her character. She masterfully showcases the contrast between Kim Mo-mi's external bravado and internal vulnerability, drawing viewers into a profound sense of empathy and connection with her journey.

Ahn Jae-hong complements this dynamic with his portrayal of a supportive character, serving as a perfect counterbalance that enhances the narrative's depth and relatability. His ability to convey a range of emotions adds a layer of authenticity that enriches the viewing experience.

Among the exceptional supporting cast, Yeom Hye-ran stands out, offering a portrayal filled with conviction and relatability, ensuring that every moment she is on screen is memorable. Additionally, Nana and Lee Han-byul contribute significantly to the show's appeal with their performances, adding layers of nuance and complexity to the storyline.

The ensemble's chemistry and dedication to their roles not only accentuate the drama's appeal but also create a plethora of memorable and beloved characters that linger long after the screen fades to black. Each actor, through their character, weaves a tapestry of emotions and relationships that are as captivating as they are genuine, showcasing the power of stellar performances in bringing a story to life.

Themes of Self-Love and Consequences

While the series draws viewers in with its thrilling plot and unpredictable twists, the underlying themes carry great weight. It demonstrates the tragic outcomes of people failing to love themselves, leading to desperate attempts to get attention from others. Furthermore, the concept of individuals attracting what they perceive about themselves brings an interesting psychological dimension to this drama.

Final Thoughts

Despite a slightly exaggerated ending, "Mask Girl" remains a fundamentally powerful series. The combination of the storyline, acting performances, and social commentary makes this a truly memorable watch. However, it serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of self-love and the consequences of our actions—a series that is not afraid to poke the cat but subtly warns the viewers about the possible tiger that might strike back.

Rating: ★★★★

If you're interested in a Kdrama that goes beyond typical romantic storytelling, provides a deep social commentary, and explores the inner workings of its characters, "Mask Girl" is undoubtedly worth your time.

Unleashing the Unpredictable: Bob Odenkirk's Captivating Transformation in 'Nobody'

3:50:00 PM

Welcome to our in-depth analysis of the action-packed masterpiece, "Nobody," directed by Ilya Naishuller. In this article, we delve into the unexpected turn taken by the talented Bob Odenkirk, who brilliantly reinvents himself as a formidable action hero. We explore the film's exceptional narrative, thrilling action sequences, and the captivating performances that make it a cut above the rest. Join us as we uncover the hidden depths of "Nobody" and why it has the potential to reign supreme among action flicks.

In Ilya Naishuller's "Nobody," audiences are treated to a refreshing twist as Bob Odenkirk, known for his role in "Better Call Saul," seamlessly transitions from a brilliant mind to an action hero akin to Liam Neeson's legendary characters. Despite the initial skepticism surrounding Odenkirk's suitability for such a role, his portrayal of Hutch Mansell proves to be a stroke of genius, showcasing his exceptional acting prowess. We embark on a thrilling journey that explores Hutch's unique set of skills and his struggle to leave behind a violent past. Brace yourself for a ride filled with adrenaline-pumping action, unexpected plot twists, and a stellar cast that elevates "Nobody" to new heights.

Unveiling Hutch Mansell's Mundane Existence

Naishuller expertly sets the stage by highlighting the monotonous routine of Hutch Mansell's daily life, cleverly emphasizing his desire for normalcy. Through a well-crafted montage, we witness the repetitive nature of Hutch's existence, symbolizing the chains that bind him to a life devoid of excitement. His marriage to Becca, played by the talented Connie Nielsen, suffers due to the very routines that provide stability for their children, Blake and Abby. We observe the delicate balance between Hutch's seemingly content life and the brewing tension that lies just beneath the surface.

A Catalyst for Change

Derek Kolstad's impeccable writing wastes no time thrusting viewers into the gripping narrative of "Nobody." The action is initiated when Hutch's suburban haven is invaded by two petty criminals, robbing them of their possessions. Here, we witness Hutch's self-imposed restraint, opting not to escalate the violence, much to the dismay of his son and disapproval of his macho neighbor. However, it is the potential loss of his daughter's cherished bracelet that awakens something within Hutch, propelling him on a relentless pursuit to retrieve it. Yet, "Nobody" transcends the traditional vigilante story, as subtle hints early on indicate that Hutch possesses a mysterious background beyond that of an average suburbanite. The presence of a secret man cave and his communication with his hidden brother Harry, portrayed by the enigmatic RZA, leave audiences questioning Hutch's true identity and the shadows he has left behind.

The Bus Scene: A Masterpiece of Action Choreography

Prepare to be blown away by the film's defining moment, the riveting bus scene that ushers in the heart-pounding action of "Nobody." Choreographed by the same team behind the iconic "John Wick" series, this meticulously crafted sequence showcases Hutch's latent skills gradually resurfacing. With each punch, kick, and maneuver, the intensity builds, leaving viewers at the edge of their seats. It is an action spectacle that will be remembered and applauded for years to come.

Pacing and Performance

Naishuller masterfully maintains the film's momentum, capitalizing on the energy generated by the bus scene to propel the story forward. Clocking in at a swift 92 minutes, "Nobody" is a testament to the director's ability to captivate audiences without wasting a single moment. While some may argue for more development of supporting characters, particularly Becca and their children, the film's tightly woven plot evokes a sense of urgency, drawing parallels to the economy of storytelling seen in the highly acclaimed "John Wick" trilogy. It is within this framework that Bob Odenkirk shines as the driving force of the film. His exceptional performance effortlessly balances Hutch's family life and violent past, creating a multi-dimensional character who captivates viewers. Odenkirk's physicality adds further authenticity to the stunts and fight choreography, solidifying his transformation into an action star of extraordinary caliber. Notably, the supporting cast, including RZA and Christopher Lloyd, brings depth and nuance to their respective roles, bolstering Odenkirk's exceptional portrayal.

Naishuller's Vision and Filmmaking Flourishes

As the director of the visually audacious "Hardcore Henry," Naishuller occasionally indulges in stylistic flourishes that showcase his unique vision. Though some may argue that certain slow-motion montages set to unconventional music choices are overplayed, Naishuller skillfully balances these moments with the essence of the film. While "Nobody" may lack a sense of high stakes and jeopardy at times, it compensates by delivering a balanced dosage of action that appeals to a wide range of audiences. By prioritizing scene construction and action choreography over excessive plot complexities, Naishuller succeeds in crafting a truly enjoyable cinematic experience that resonates with viewers.

Conclusion

In a genre that often struggles to reinvent itself, "Nobody" emerges as a breath of fresh air, leaving a lasting impression on audiences craving adrenaline-pumping entertainment. Its tight pacing, riveting action sequences, and the remarkable transformation of Bob Odenkirk combine to create an unforgettable film. "Nobody" stands as a testament to the power of expertly crafted action scenes and the magnetic presence of a gifted actor. We are left eagerly anticipating the potential for a sequel and even fantasizing about the ultimate crossover between "John Wick" and "Nobody." As it hits theaters, "Nobody" promises an exhilarating rush that rejuvenates the action genre and reignites our love for the art of filmmaking.

Gen Z It Girl Juliana Gomez shares how the Samsung Galaxy A Series complements her active lifestyle

12:21:00 PM

Having a busy lifestyle as an A-list sporty active It girl, Juliana Gomez seeks a phone that not only matches her aesthetic, but also can keep up with her jam-packed schedule and bold living. With its eye-catching design and powerful performance, the Samsung Galaxy A Series delivers all that and more, which is exactly what she was vibing with these phones when she took guests on a tour inside the “Awesome Interactive Zone” during the Awesome Together Launch Party held at Marriott Manila Hotel.

Upon trying the Galaxy A34 5G and A54 5G, Juliana was in awe, checking out the excellent features packed in one smartphone. Here’s why the new Galaxy A series is awesome for Juliana:

Expandable Storage and Exceptional Performance

ICYDK, Juliana Gomez is not just the daughter of actors and politician parents Richard Gomez and Lucy Torres-Gomez, but she is also a champion of UAAP women’s fencing and an open competition in Thailand. As an athlete, it is imperative for her to keep track of her daily progress by recording her training and performance on her phone. “Thankfully, my Galaxy A34 5G allows up to a terabyte of memory and has great camera quality that allows me to take high-quality footage and zoom in on the smaller details of my game.”, Juliana said.

Besides being an international fencing champion, Juliana also prioritizes her studies as an Iska of UP Diliman. That’s why it’s very important to her to have a device that is fast and is efficient like the Galaxy A series’ phones with its super-fast 5G connectivity and top-of-the-line processors; Mediatek 1080 for the Galaxy A34 5G and Exynos 1380 for the Galaxy A54 5G. She mentioned, “Being a Gen Z consumer, I place high importance on phone performance because I use my phone more than an actual camera to take photos. I work through my phone more than I work using my laptop.”

Excellent Camera Quality and Durability

On her days off, Juliana is also an outgoing person, taking on adventures with her friends and family, either at local beaches or at various destinations around the world. As she had firsthand experience with the A series, she was amazed how the camera quality exceeded her expectations. “The phone’s ability to take bright and stable photos make[s] it the perfect tool to capture awesome memories with my loved ones.” Juliana cited.

For her worry-free adventures, Juliana also considers her phone’s durability. Lucky for her, the Galaxy A series’ IP67 rating makes it not just dust-resistant, but it can also withstand being submerged as deep as one meter of water for about 30 minutes. The Galaxy A series, in her own words, is “the most durable touch screen phone” she’s ever owned.

Trendy Colors and Premium Design

She also loved the fresh colorways that the Galaxy A series gives—Awesome Lime and Awesome Graphite for the Galaxy A54 5G, with Awesome Violet as an online-only offer, while the Galaxy A34 5G comes in Awesome Graphite and Awesome Violet. As per Juliana, they look “so trendy and premium”, with the metallic finish and an elegant glossy back glass panel for the Galaxy A54 5G and a prism patterned back panel for the Galaxy A34 5G.  “I love the way the Galaxy A Series phones look. Against any outfit, my Galaxy A34 5G adds the most pleasant pop of color, as if it were accessorizing my look.”, she said.

According to Juliana, the Galaxy A series is awesome for her because she finally has a phone that checks all the boxes. “It is beautifully designed, has great camera quality and a screen that is perfect for video consumption, the battery lasts long and the phone charges fast.”, she added.

Live an awesome life just like Juliana with your own Galaxy A series phone! The Galaxy A54 5G retails for PHP 26,990 for the 256GB variant and PHP 24,990 for the 128GB variant, while the Galaxy A34 5G retails for PHP 21,990 for the 256GB variant and PHP 19,990 for the 128GB variant.

Why Do We Love KDramas? A Guide to Understanding the Korean Drama Addict in You

8:02:00 AM

I've been a fan of Korean dramas since the start of pandemic - out of sheer boredom and nothing else to watch, I started to skim through the subtitled shows that I consciously tried to avoid. My first KDramas were the classics you'd expect: The Princess Hours, My Mister, Reply 1988. The comedies, romances, historicals, and thrillers all hooked me in with their incredible storytelling (and killer fight scenes). But it wasn't until I watched Coffee Prince that I fully understood why I'm so obsessed with them.

KDramas have excellent stories and characters.

As with any good drama, the plot of a KDrama is usually well-written. It's also true that most of them feature characters who are well developed and relatable. The main characters tend to be likable as well—a trait that can't be said for many Hollywood movies or TV shows these days!

The one thing that stands out in almost all KDramas is the love triangle (or sometimes square) between two male leads and one female lead. In many cases, our favorite K-Drama heroines have been torn between two guys who are equally attractive—and both of whom seem perfect for her! This leads us back to our first point: these dramas make us feel like we're living vicariously through someone else's life by putting us into situations we'd never get ourselves into!

KDrama focus on topics that are relevant today.

Watching Hollywood shows and films all my life, you know that the main characters often start out as enemies and end in love. This is because the plot typically involve two people from different social classes and backgrounds:

  • A rich guy and a poor girl
  • A rich guy and a poor girl from different countries/cultures/races
  • A rich guy and a poor girl who are from the same country but have different beliefs
  • They're good romance stories with a lot of heart.

KDramas explore different topics, different genres that are relevant to society today. Often they're part of some larger goal or conflict, and sometimes they have to overcome obstacles to be together. The characters often have a lot of heart and do some very unexpected things for each other.

They're funny, cheesy at times.

Korean dramas are funny and can be cheesy at times. They're funny, but not ridiculous. They're funny, but not inappropriate. They're funny—but not in an over-the-top way that makes you want to turn off your computer and never watch another Korean drama again....well, maybe sometimes (and we all know how many people have actually done this).

They're just plain funny! And they're smart and witty in a way that only Koreans can do it: with a sense of self-awareness and humor about their own culture, history and traditions without being trite or corny.

But wait...you say...there's nothing humorous about the plot summary. How do you explain that? Well my friend I'll tell you why: because these writers understand what makes something funny (and if they don't understand it themselves then they work with someone who does) which means that whatever happens on screen will always be grounded in some type of reality—even if that reality includes ghosts or aliens or time travel machines (don't worry too much about those last two though because most dramas don't put them into play).

The cast chemistry is amazing.

You'll notice that the cast chemistry is amazing, and that's because it's real. The actors are really good at acting—they're so good at acting, they act like they're not acting! They have great on-screen chemistry, which means they also have great off-screen chemistry. And you can tell when you watch them play their characters in a drama that they really understand those characters; it's not just an act. When you watch a scene between two people who love each other (or hate each other), it's hard not to get caught up in their emotions and forget about your own life for a few minutes.

The best part of all this is that you get to experience something special every time you watch kdramas—it’s like going through a different journey with friends every time!

The plots are unpredictable.

As a general rule, the plots of Korean dramas are not always designed to end on an optimistic note. This isn't always true, but it's true more often than not. Even if you find yourself rooting for a villain who is destined for failure and defeat, the least possible outcome may happen—and even if they do get their comeuppance in the end, their final fate may just make your jaw drop.

This isn't necessarily unique to Korean dramas; we've all seen our fair share of happy endings in other genres too (romantic comedies being one). But what makes K-dramas stand out is how strongly this theme manifests itself throughout each episode or series. Most episodes end with some sort of resolution—a plot point resolved or a character finding closure with another character or themselves—and these resolutions tend to be fairly correct in the game of life.

The actors are gorgeous, and the wardrobe is awesome!

Korean dramas are known for their beautiful actors. They are good-looking, fit, talented, intelligent and hard-working. In fact, they're so good at what they do that you might think the drama is real life—and sometimes it feels like that!

Watching KDrama is an awesome way to relax, learn a new language, be entertained, get caught up in a good story and feel like there's hope for love in the world!

Watching KDrama is a great way to learn a new language.

They are entertaining and relaxing.

You can enjoy them with your friends or family members, who are more likely to be interested in the same things as you are.

First and foremost, there’s the sheer fun of it all: browsing through a long list of dramas and picking out the ones that sound most appealing. Then you get to binge-watch your chosen dramas, trying to guess what’ll happen next. Or perhaps you prefer watching them one episode at a time. Either way, there’s nothing quite like diving into a drama with characters you know and love (or hate).

So go ahead! Try watching Korean dramas if you haven't already—we think it'll be worth your time. We promise that once these shows hook you in, it'll be hard for them to let go.

CINEMAS TO STRICTLY ENFORCE HEALTH PROTOCOLS

AS THEY WELCOME VACCINATED AUDIENCES SOON IN NCR

MANILA, October 20, 2021 -- Now that cinemas are allowed to reopen in the National Capital Region (NCR) after being shut down for a year and seven months, theater operators are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of moviegoers and cinema employees.

“That is the main goal right now,” says Charmaine Bauzon, president of The Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP).] “We have devoted the past 19 months of cinema closure identifying solutions and precautions based on science.  We will implement these measures to confidently welcome back movie fans to cinemas and send them home safe.”

Last Wednesday October 13, the Inter-Agency Task Force Against Covid-19 (IATF), placed NCR under Alert Level 3, paving the way for the reopening of cinemas, but with several restrictions: only fully vaccinated people will be admitted and seating capacity to be limited to 30 percent.  The actual date of reopening is still subject to confirmation -- the public is advised to wait for further announcement.

Cinemas are safe spaces

“We would like to assure the public that cinema is a safe place,” says Bauzon.  “In fact, LGUs have converted some theaters into vaccination centers, and no super-spreading were ever reported, even though people waited inside for hours.”

Indeed, there’s also a recent study in Germany which concluded cinemas are safer than almost any other indoor environment, as long as safety guidelines are followed like mask-wearing, physical distancing and proper air ventilation.

The same German research took into account the following factors in its conclusion:

  • People spend an average of only two hours at a cinema
  • People inside the cinema simply sit down and face the same direction which is known to reduce transmission risks
  • People are not talking to each other during a movie, which minimizes possibility of infection

(Note: The aforementioned German study is entitled “Covid-19 Contagion via Aerosol Particles – A Comparative Evaluation of Indoor Environments” conducted by scientists at the Berlin Institute of Technology / Hermann-Rietschel-Institut. Cinemas will strictly impose all safety protocols

Aside from adhering to IATF-mandated health standards, CEAP has also developed the “Sa Sine Safe Ka” protocols patterned after the “CinemaSafe” measures set by America’s National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) and endorsed by epidemiologists.  Dr. David F. Goldsmith, PhD, Occupational & Environmental Epidemiologist at the Milken Institute School of Public Health (U.S.A.) has reviewed the efforts of NATO and commented that, “These protocols demonstrate a serious, comprehensive effort by movie theater owners to identify potential risks, and reduce them.”

These protocols are:

  • Monitoring of moviegoers’ body temperature as they enter the cinema
  • Moviegoers to present authentic vaccination card
  • Implement regulations set by the IATF and LGUs on facial coverings
  • No eating inside the cinema
  • Enforce socially-distanced seating
  • Encourage contact-less transaction in ticket-purchasing
  • Improved air ventilation
  • Availability of hand sanitizers at the cinema entrance
  • Mandatory hand-washing every 30 minutes for cinema employees
  • Deep cleaning between screenings

Not feeling well? Stay at home. Please

CEAP would like to stress that only healthy, fully vaccinated people will be allowed back to cinemas.  “If you are experiencing a fever, cough, or other symptoms that could be related to COVID-19 – or think that you may have been exposed to COVID-19, please stay home and we welcome you to join us again in the future,” concludes Bauzon.

Unlocking cinemas will save jobs

The 19-month long closure of cinemas has dealt a severe blow to the entire movie industry, leading to unprecedented massive unemployment.  It is estimated that a workforce of some 336,000 has lost its livelihood.  These are hardworking women and men from various fields intersecting the movie business:

Creative & Production: Directors, screenwriters, talents, editors, crew, bit players, caterers and runners

Distribution: Logistics team, production checkers, monitoring team, back office support

Exhibition: Cinema ticket-sellers, usher-porters, projectionists, snack bar personnel, janitors, branch management team

Others: Cinema suppliers, event organizers, employees of stores and restaurants around cinema premises

Thanks to the looming return of cinemas, these workers may now heave a sigh of relief.

Big-Screen Adventure "Dune" Opens in PH Cinemas Nov 10

3:16:00 PM

After an eternity of cinema closure, the time has come to experience “Dune” on the big screen the way it’s meant to be seen.  Warner Bros. Philippines is happy to announce that the epic adventure will open exclusively in Philippine theaters on Wednesday, November 10.

As director Denis Villenueve (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Arrival”) has said: “`Dune’ has been made, designed, dreamed to be seen on a big screen.”

The Academy Award nominated filmmaker directs Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Dune,” the big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller, considered one of the most influential books of the 20th century and credited with inspiring many of the greatest films of all time.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

“I discovered the book in my teenage years and I remember being totally fascinated by its poetry, by what it was saying about nature—the true main character of Dune,” Villeneuve relates.  “Frank Herbert’s view of nature was absolutely mesmerizing—all those beautiful ecosystems he created.  His exploration of the impact and chaos caused by colonialism was a portrait of the 20th century that is still relevant today.  And through all of this was a young man struggling with his identity, trying to find his way in the world, as I was doing myself.  The way Paul discovers his identity through another culture was, for me, amazing.”

Villeneuve’s big screen adaptation fully immerses the audience in this profoundly moving story of Paul’s coming of age set against family rivalries, tribal clashes, social oppression and ecological disaster on the unforgiving, austere planet, creating a fantastical cinematic experience that is both epic and intimate.

When it came to casting the many roles, Villeneuve and the producers assembled an astonishing list of actors to fill the coveted roles, including Timothée Chalamet as our hero, Paul Atreides, alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, David Bautista and many more.

“To my great pleasure, most of my first choices were available and willing to embark on this journey with me,” Villeneuve smiles.

Acclaimed screenwriters Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth, as well as Villeneuve, tackled the daunting adaptation of Herbert’s novel.  Spaihts offers, “This was a chance of a lifetime for me.  I first read Dune at probably 12 or 13, and at that age I was struck by it almost like scripture; it felt like one of the most profound things that I had read and became one of my annual reads, like The Lord of the Rings.”

“I was a fan,” Roth states.  “It has all the ingredients that come together to create a wonderful alchemy of storytelling: what happens to planet Arrakis, the father-son and mother-son storylines, the fact that women are very powerful… It seems modern and all of a sudden very pressing, and he wrote it in the `60s.”

“To me, ‘Dune’ is a psychological thriller, an adventure, a war movie, a coming-of-age movie.  It’s even a love story,” concludes Villeneuve, who at last is able to fulfill his lifelong dream of bringing the landmark work with its complex mythology to life.  “There’s a reason the book stayed on my shelf, beside my bed, all those years.”

Only in cinemas starting Nov. 10, “Dune” is distributed in the Philippines by Warner Bros. Pictures, a WarnerMedia Company.
